30 Must-Have Gears for Trekking in Pakistan


 Three lists of supplies, tools, and gear are available to you for trekking in Pakistan.

List 1: Must-Have Items

List 1 contains items and equipment that you must bring.

  1. First Aid Pack (Diamox (Altitude), Dioralite (re-hydration salts), antiseptic cream, blister treatment, throat lozenges, plasters, Imodium (diarrhea treatment), painkillers)
  2. Hiking Backpack (Day Pack) 32-42 Litres
  3. Fleece jacket with hood or a warm jumper
  4. Mittens or gloves
  5. Gloves (Thermal)
  6. Headtorch with spare batteries
  7. Hiking boots
  8. Sleeping bag (-16°C comfort rated)
  9. Sandals (sports) or old shoes (to cross rivers)
  10. Sun protection cream (including total block for nose, lips etc.)
  11. Sunglasses
  12. Sunhat
  13. Thermarest or any similar mat/pad for sleeping
  14. Warm hat
  15. Warm jacket (down)
  16. Water bottles 1litre (x2)
  17. Waterproof jacket
  18. Waterproof over-trousers
  19. Antibacterial handwash
  20. Shirts/T-shirts
  21. Small towel
  22. Socks
  23. Spare laces
  24. Underwear (normal and thermal)
  25. Trekking poles (highly recommended)
  26. Wash-bag and toiletries
  27. Walking socks (2/3 pairs)
  28. Baselayer – leggings (Thermal)
  29. Trekking Trousers
  30. Baselayer thermal shirts (2 long sleeves, 2 short sleeves)
  31. Mountaineering equipment (See “List 2” below)

    List 2: Must-Have Equipment

    The items in List 2 are for trekking across a high mountain pass with the potential to cross snow or ice on a particular day.

    1. Crampons
    2. Mountaineering boots that must be compatible with your crampons. Minimum Grade B2.
    3. Ice axe
    4. Climbing harness
    5. Karabiner/Carabiner (screwgate type x 2)
    6. Climbing helmet
    7. Prusik loops X two (2) – (4 meters of 6 mm cord makes up 2)
    8. Sling (120 cm)

    List 3: Optional Items

    You might require some of the optional items on this third list while on your trekking vacation. You can choose items from the third list that you might require based on your own judgement.

    1. Buff or scarf
    2. Small padlock (for locking your bag)
    3. Camera
    4. Insect repellant
    5. Pen-knife (important: pack sharp tools in hold luggage)
    6. Repair kit (e.g. thread, needle, duct tape)
    7. Liner (for sleeping bag)
    8. Travel clothes
    9. Bottle for Pee
